KOLKATA, 16 January, 2010: Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan on Saturday night visited communist patriarch Jyoti Basu at the AMRI Hospitals and inquired about his condition. Jyoti Basu is in a critical state and multi-organ failure has set in.
Big B stayed for nearly 20 minutes but didn't not speak to media where a huge crowd gathered to see him. Earlier, Bachchan said he was pained to see Jyoti Basu battling for life in hospital. "I have met him once or twice. We had come to collect subscription for the film industry. He was very powerful and hard-working," recalled Big B.
"He was the chief minister of West Bengal for a record period. I am feeling very bad to see him suffering like this. I hope he gets well," said Bachchan on a visit to Kolkata to promote his new film Rann.
Earlier during a visit to the city, Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan also expressed his respect and concern for Jyoti Basu.
